The secret to happiness is freedom
and the secret to freedom is courage.
Pericles' Funeral Oration
The EuroAtlantic Institute was formed to serve the EuroAtlantic bond of Europe and America, to defend freedom and democracy, to fight disinformation and provide deep insights into geopolitical risks and decision making.
The EuroAtlantic Institute is a non-profit, independent and non-partisan geo-strategic think tank dedicated to promoting and preserving the security, stability, quality of life and prosperity of the EuroAtlantic community. As a result of this policy, the U.S. and Europe have become one of the strongest and most stable economic regions in the world.
The Institute's work includes analyzing geopolitical threats in the areas of information warfare, energy security, economic, financial, and defense policy. The focus is on the democratically legitimized economic and military partnership between Europe and the United States and the common threat by autocratic political systems.”
With the new American administration tearing up decades of international expectations about U.S. leadership of NATO and the free world, the consequences for America’s friends and allies in Europe and Asia of the launching of a global trade war in a time of geopolitical competition are profoundly troubling.
The Honorable James P Rubin has joined the EuroAtlantic Institute as Chairman after a distinguished four decades at the highest levels of the United States Government, in the field of international affairs and U.S. national security as a diplomat, commentator, professor and broadcaster and most recently as a top strategist for Secretary of State Antony Blinken until late January 2025.
From the war in Ukraine, to the growing U.S.-China confrontation — not to mention the chaos and ongoing warfare in the Middle East, James P. Rubin also led U.S. government efforts from 2022 to 2024 to combat the growing information warfare from Russia and China and will offer a frank net assessment of the new information challenges faced by the West and democratic governments around the world.
Individual Freedom manifests itself through physical and intellectual freedom of thought and
being able to think and speak nothing but the whole truth.
The Honorable James P Rubin

Alfred Herrhausen Freedom Prize
Dr.Alfred Herrhausen's contribution to German reunification was greater than known. Alfred Herrhausen knew from the credit files he had obtained from Moscow about the desperate state of the Soviet economy. Herrhausen was also aware that East Germany, the GDR was heavily dependent on Soviet subsidies. He convinced German Chancellor Helmut Kohl that the West had a good chance of German unification with the insolvent German Democratic Republic (“DDR).
Deutsche Bank granted loans to Hungary, easing the opening of the Hungarian section of the iron curtain, setting the stage for a mass exodus of Germans seeking freedom via the open border in Hungary. On November 29, 1989, one day before his assassination, Alfred Herrhausen received the Prime Minister of the Soviet Union, Nikola Ryzhkov at Deutsche Bank headquarters in Frankfurt. Deutsche Bank loaned 3 billion German marks to the Soviet Union on June 26, 1990. The loan to the Soviet Union laid the foundation for German reunification. paving the way for Michael Gorbachev's approval of German reunification on October 3, 1990. Through his geo-strategic actions and leadership, Alfred Herrhausen will be remembered in history for serving the unity and freedom of Germany and Europe.
